CLINTON — The final day of the Turkey Tussle included three games for third place, second place and the championship.

The first game of the afternoon was a match between the hometown Clinton Lady Maroons and the ever-tough St. Teresa Lady Bulldogs from Decatur.  In this home game, the Lady Maroons ruled the court starting in the first quarter.

The Lady Maroons shot out of the starting blocks and caught the opposition off guard, getting an 11-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.  The home team backed off in the second quarter, letting the Lady Bulldogs catch a breath by the halftime; Clinton still on top 17-6.

After the mid-game break, the Lady Maroons returned to a tough defense, again allowing the opposition only single-digit scoring, while going on a scoring frenzy of their own.  At the end of the third quarter, the home team was up 29-13 and never trailed again.

The fourth quarter was an explosion by the Lady Maroons, scoring 21 points, while holding the Lady Bulldogs to only 5.  Clinton took this game 50-18.

The Lady Maroons were led by Clara Dempsey (#0) and Avery Smith (#22) with 12 points each.  The Lady Maroons took third place in the tournament.
