CLINTON — It’s census year, and in a few weeks, the U.S. Census Bureau will begin asking residents to participate in the decennial counting of heads. City of Clinton officials encourage everyone to take part in the procedure.
Census numbers play strongly into the amount of federal money available to municipalities for a variety of projects, so city officials urge local residents to participate.
“We’re trying to get the word out,” said city administrator Tim Followell. “We’re trying to make certain to people how important filling out the census is. We really need that data because data means dollars for the City of Clinton.”
The Clinton population was down in the 2010 census, so Followell hopes the number will be up after the 2020 process.
“We’ve had a lot of work over 10 years getting maps and items like that fixed,” Followell said. “Now it takes the citizens to put their part in.”
U.S. Census notifications
Households will receive invitations to respond online to the census from Mar. 12-20. Some households also will receive paper questionnaires.
The Census Bureau will send reminder letters from Mar. 16-24.
Those who haven’t responded will receive reminder postcards from Mar. 26-Apr. 3.
Reminder letters and paper questionnaires will go out from Apr. 8-16, with final reminder postcards going out Apr. 20-27 before the bureau follows up in person.
