CLINTON — Although just one member of the Clinton boys track & field team qualified for the state finals this year, the athlete who represented CHS managed to achieve maximum results.
Senior Austin Rauch went through regionals and sectionals qualifying for state in both the high jump and the long jump. And, although Austin was knocked out for the finals in the long jump during the preliminary rounds, he was able to hold on in the high jump.
He qualified with a jump of 6’3” with several other competitors, but in the final, Austin surpassed the field with a winning high jump of 6’10” to become the 2018 IHSA Class 2A High Jump Champion and set a new school record.
Austin signed earlier this year to play basketball for Knox College.
