FARMER CITY — Starting last Friday, April 14, the Knights of Blue Ridge (Farmer City, Mansfield, etc.) have been busy on the ball field.
Starting off on Friday, the home team took on Lexington in a Heart-of-Illinois conference game. Lexington rose to the occasion scoring a run in the first inning and another in the third to take the lead they would not relinquish.
Blue Ridge finally scored in the 4th inning to cut the lead in half, but the opposition came back in the fifth with a run of their own to extend their lead back to 2 runs. This same scenario happened in the sixth and seventh innings to bring the final score to Lexington 4 and Blue Ridge 2. Alec Lyle pitched all 7 innings in a losing effort giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and walking 4 while only striking out 3.
This game put Blue Ridge at 8-10 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Next the Knights faced LeRoy on Monday, April 17th. This outing would also be a conference game. Blue Ridge rested well over the weekend as they jumped to an early lead and never looked back. In the first inning the Knights took advantage of an error by LeRoy and two singles when Aaron Jayne lined a triple into the right field corner to score 3 runs. Next, Sam Duggins tripled to right center and scored on a ground out by Caleb Trotter. This 5 run inning put the Knights in the lead they would never give up. They added another insurance run in the 6th. LeRoy had two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for their total score. Blue Ridge won 6-3 putting their season at 9-10 overall and 4-2 in conference.

Finally, the Knights faced the Judah Christian team in a non-conference match-up. Blue Ridge scored first in the second inning with 2 runs. Then, the home team added 2 more in the third, 2 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth to round out their afternoons work. Judah Christian was able to score one run in the seventh inning to break up a shut out by the Knights. Blue Ridges winning pitcher was Jayden Dalton (2-1), who pitched a complete game allowing 4 hits and one run while throwing 3 strikeouts and walking one. The Knights were lead by Caleb Trotter hitting 3 for 3 with a triple, 4 RBI’s, 3 runs scored and2 stolen bases. Sam Duggins hit 2 for 3 with a double and scored 3 runs also. This brings the Knights season to an even 10-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
