CLINTON — After recently talking about concerns he and the street department had about the city’s brush pick up program, commissioner Kenny Buchanan felt Monday he should address rumors about the program during the city council meeting.

“Last meeting, I mentioned something about brush pick up,” Buchanan said.  “We’re looking at doing some changing; Steve Lobb and Steve Myers and me have been working on that.”

“I just want to put it out there that we’re not going to stop picking up brush,” Buchanan said.  “There’s been some rumors going around that we’re going to stop picking up brush.”

During the June 17 meeting, Buchanan did not say the city would discontinue the program but was looking at changes to how it works, something he repeated during Monday’s meeting.

At the June 17 council meeting, Buchanan said city workers were spending an increasing amount of time on brush pick up and pointed out it was unusual for communities to have regular pick up outside that performed after storms.

The city has in the past had problems with some homeowners removing entire trees and placing them at the street for city pick up.

Commissioner John Wise congratulated Steve Lobb on another successful “Tour de Witt.”  

The annual bicycle tour through DeWitt County raises funds to support the Child Protection Network, a Bloomington based advocacy group that also serves DeWitt County.

“A charitable group that does a really good job for kids,” Wise said.  “For as hot a day as it was, they had almost 200 riders.”

“Steve did a great job, as usual.”

“I appreciate the city’s support, and the county helps out as well,” Lobb said.  “And, there’s been just a ton of people who volunteer to make that work.”

Lobb pointed out that Wise, city administrator Tim Followell and city clerk Cheryl Van Valey are volunteers who help with the event.
