Camp Osage kids get new appreciation for the land

Gordon Woods / Journal — Clinton Community YMCA’s Camp Osage took campers on a fun and educational field trip on August 9, as around 50 kids attended an Acres for Kids Ag Day event at the property of Jerry Toohill, east of Clinton. DeWitt County Farm Bureau, DeWitt County Soil & Water Conservation District, Illinois Corn Growers Association and Stone Seed set up stations to talk to kids and conduct some hands-on activities teaching kids about dairy, the land, water conservation, and more. Camp Osage director David Torbert said the idea for the event originated with Darren Moser, of the DeWitt County Soil & Water Conservation District. After activities children received lunch.
