SULLIVAN — On Monday, April 17, the Maroons traveled to Sullivan for a conference battle with the Redskins.
Sullivan was boosted by the home field advantage and took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. From there, a pitchers’ dual ensued until the Maroons scored 2 runs in the seventh inning to tie the game and 1 in the eighth off the Sullivan relief pitcher to take the lead.
But, in the bottom of the eighth inning, the home team Redskins roughed up the Maroons’ relief pitcher Wesley Conn, who took the loss, for 2 runs and the win.
This takes the Maroons’ season to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the Central Illinois Conference. Highlights for the Maroons were Mac Hickman hitting an RBI to score the tying run in the seventh and Levi Nettles getting a double in the eighth. The Maroons also committed 5 errors in the game, which was a big disadvantage.
