CLINTON — On Monday, the city council could vote to make a donation to the annual Clinton fireworks display. The item was placed on file for public review at the council’s May 1 meeting.
In 2016, the council voted to donate $3,700 toward the approximately $10,000 cost of the display. Council members later voted an additional $1,300 for a total donation of $5,000.
Celebrate Clinton assumed responsibility for fundraising for the fireworks display for the first time in 2016, taking over for Brady Realty. Celebrate Clinton also coordinates annual July 4 activities on Mr. Lincoln’s Square, for which it also must raise several thousand dollars.
In 2016, Ruth Lowers, a member of Celebrate Clinton, said the group sent out 138 solicitations in March that year asking for sponsorships or donations for the fireworks display.
“We had a nice return from our core sponsors of our day long activities,” Lowers said.
Other Monday agenda items could include purchase of a 2017 Ford Interceptor for the police department from Morrow Bros Ford for $38,084, sale of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala from the police department and purchase of a Panasonic laptop computer for the police department not to exceed $3,000.
