CLINTON — City administrator Tim Followell offered a survey Monday of progress made upgrading Rotary Park.  His comments came as Clinton Rotary president John Hoblit presented the city with a $3,000 check, an annual contribution covering some of those costs.

“The city ended up doing the pickle ball courts last summer,” Followell said during Monday’s council meeting.  “And, I can tell you, with the start to the spring and summer, they are getting used and used a lot.”

Followell said the courts were so popular, a resident asked him if the city would consider building another one.

“It’s going very well,” he said.  “With the help of the Rotarians, we re-did the playgrounds.”

Followell said the playground project, including the rubber playground mulch, totaled approximately $60,000.  Upgrades to signs, brush removal and planting of trees by the City Tree Commission also were part of the project.

“There are still ongoing plans,” Followell said.  Those plans include the possible inclusion of a walking / bicycle path that could tie in to the city pathways project.

Additional council business

Commissioners approved $3,445 to ESL Power Systems, Inc. to install a community switch box to the stage of Mr. Lincoln’s Square.  The box would provide universal connection for band and other sound equipment and would employ a safety feature that cuts power at the box while its cover is opened.

• The council reappointed Julie North and Shelley Miles to the board of Warner Hospital & Health Services.
