CLINTON — At approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, April 30, there was a fire in the CJHS kitchen caused by kitchen rags that ignited, according to a Facebook post on the school district website. The fire set off the alarm system and the sprinkler system.
The Clinton Fire Department responded and there was minimal to no damage in the kitchen. The Fire Dept. worked for a few hours to get the smoke out of the building, and district personnel worked into the middle of the night getting it cleaned up for school on Tuesday morning.
The DeWitt County Health Dept. also assisted with the clean up process and certified the kitchen in order for operation and food preparation. The Fire Dept will conduct routine investigations to determine the cause.
