CJHS Lady Maroons come up short vs Lady Vikings

CLINTON — It was a mild, early fall evening when the northerly winds blew the Lady Vikings of Tri-Valley into town to battle the Lady Maroons of Clinton Junior High School (CJHS) on the hardwood.
The onslaught began as the 7th grade teams took the floor. Scoring was sparse, and at the end of the first quarter showed a 7-2 lead for the opposition. But not an insurmountable deficit for the home team.
However, the Lady Maroons failed to score again by halftime, while the Lady Vikings were up to 12 points. The home team was able to add 2 more points in the 3rd quarter and held the Lady Vikings to only 4 points.
The score differential didn’t change in the fourth quarter as both teams scored 6 points each but leaving the 7th grade Lady Maroons with the 22-10 loss.
The Lady Maroons had only three players scoring with Karly Bless (#1) and Delaney Dempsey (#24) leading the way with 4 points each.
The 8th grade tussle began much like the previous battle with the home team struggling against the foe.
The first quarter had the Lady Vikings up 7-1, and with a terrible 2nd quarter by both teams, the score was 8-1 in favor of the visitors.
The third quarter put the gap even larger with a 9-point run from the Lady Vikings to the home team’s 3 points. The final quarter saw the home team finally gain momentum, scoring 10 points to the Lady Vikings 2 points. This gave the Lady Maroons a respectable finish to a rough evening.
The final score was a 19-14 loss for the home team. The Lady Maroons again had only three players scoring, led by Averie Fatheree (#2) with 10 points, eight of which were in the fourth quarter and included two 3-point shots.
