CLINTON — This week began with the Bloomington Junior High Lady Knights arriving in Clinton on a crusade to down the Clinton Junior High Lady Maroons.

This was evident from the tip-off of the 7th grade game.  The Lady Maroons were completely out maneuvered by the opposition.  The home team didn’t score until the third quarter.

This was their best offensive run, holding the Lady Knights to one point in the third period.  However, Bloomington slashed back with 10 points in the final quarter.

The Lady Maroons took a 20-7 loss on the night.

The ensuing 8th grade battle was tough for the elder team.  The eighth grade team struggled with their offense, missing the majority of their shots, while the Lady Knights seemed incapable of missing on anything thrown into the air.  The home team was only down by 1 point at the close of the first quarter, and at the halftime buzzer were still in the thick of the game with a five point deficit.

The Lady Knights were just too tough on this night to be overtaken and won this game also by nine 37-28.  For the

7th grade Lady Maroons, it was even scoring among Reagan Filkin, Conley Schick and Bella Downs.  For the 8th graders, Meagan Stevens lead the way followed closely by Ashley Armstrong and Autumn Bartell with Heidi Humble, Alaina Soberalski, and London McFeeters adding points in support.

CLINTON — From the ruble of an attack by the Bloomington Lady Knights arose a different set of Lady Maroons one night later playing Rt. 54 foe, the Blue Ridge Lady Knights.

This second evening of Knights was better for the Lady Maroons.  From the start the Lady Maroons appeared as a different team.  The 7th grade game began with the home team taking command with a 10-2 lead by the end of the first quarter, and leading by 12 at the half, 15-3.

The Lady Knights mounted a weak come back in the second half, but the Lady Maroons kept the pressure on to win by 18 points, 28-10.  The 7th graders were led by Alaina Helfand with 10 points followed by Reagan Filkin with 6 points, Bella Downs with 5, Conley Schick with 4, and Aiden Barber with 2 points.

The 8th grade teams then came to the court for the second battle of the evening.  The Lady Maroons took a slight lead of 2 points by the end of the first quarter.  This was upped to a four point lead at the halftime buzzer.

However, the opposition wouldn’t give in and were within 2 points of the lead at the end of quarter #3.  The Lady Maroons then exploded with 10 points in the final stanza of the game including a 3-point bucket by Ashley Armstrong.

The final score was 26-19.

The 8th graders were led by Heidi Humble with 10 points assisted by Ashley Armstrong with 7 points, Autumn Bartell with 6 points, and Meagan Stevens with 3 points.

The second day of Knights proved to be a difference between day and night.  The Lady Maroons teams appeared more relaxed and were a more cohesive group.  Their court presence was more controlled and had purpose with better passing and they had great ball control.
