Clinton FFA members going to state and national competitions

CLINTON — It has been an exceptionally successful March for Clinton FFA members.

At the State Food Science CDE, Clinton FFA placed first and moves on to the National competition, in Indianapolis, held in October. Kinser Wargel placed 3rd, Megan Finfrock 7th.

Also participating were Anna Mills and Tennyson Kern.  The Food Science Career Development Event involves understanding nutrition labels, food safety and sanitation, general management principles, difference testing, aroma identification and food processing.

In Proficiency Judging, members keep track of their individual FFA projects throughout the year, including daily activities and finances.  Members compete against students from local schools at the Section level.

If they are successful and win at the Section level they move on to District, which pits them against students from a larger area. If they are successful at winning the District competition they move on to the State.

The State level includes the top five in the State of Illinois.  Clinton FFA had 10 compete at the Section level in 17 areas, six at the District level and has five members going to the State Proficiency Judging competition, including Emma Moore, in Equine Placement, Tennyson Kern, in Equine Entrepreneurship, Jacob Gregory in Ag Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship, Megan Finfrock in Fiber and Oil Crop Entrepreneurship, and Kinser Wargel, in Landscape Management.
