CLINTON — It was a rare opportunity for Clinton firefighters to have an entire city block to use for training. But, following a successful exercise on Saturday, the MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) group that Clinton Fire Department is part of plans to conduct a group training day every year.
“I didn’t hear a single bad comment,” said CFD’s Blake West about Saturday’s training.
In fact, West said the firefighters, about 78 of them from 17 area departments, were “really excited” about the opportunity. The exercise took place in a city block near Warner Hospital that is slated for redevelopment into a gas station / convenience store.
The exercise focused on eight training stations, each dealing with a different aspect of firefighting and emergency rescue. Forcible entry, vent, search and rescue, shoring unstable properties, water supply (rural and city), hose advancement, coordinated search and vent-enter-search were among the practice stations.
Clinton’s MABAS group already has held a planning meeting for next year’s exercise.
“Every year, we’re going to plan something,” West said.
