CLINTON — The Clinton Junior High School (CJHS) basketball teams had fun this year and carried #Maroon Pride well.
Their last two games were a win, a loss (an away game to Mahomet/Seymour), and a win (against Our Lady of Lourdes [OLOL]). This gave the 7th graders a 12-1 season and the 8th graders a 13-1 season, while under Covid restrictions.
Along the way, the teams each captured their conference championships with perfect 9-0 records in the Junior High OKAW Conference. The future of Lady Maroons basketball looks promising as the high school coaches are taking notice of the teams.
In the final game of the year, the 7th grade Lady Maroons scored 30 points in the first half to put the game out of reach for the opposition, as OLOL could only muster single digit scores in each of their quarters. Even the subs out scored the opposition in the final two quarters.
Clinton won 40-10. The seventh graders were led by Avery Smith with 10 points.
On the 8th grade side, their final game at CJHS, the score was amazingly the same, although the 8th graders had their spurt in the middle two quarters of the game and then held the opposition scoreless in the final quarter.
Clinton won this game 40-10.
The Lady Maroons 8th grade team was led by Reagan Filkin and Alaina Helfand, each with 18 points.
As each of the 8th graders left the court for the final time they did a cartwheel in front of the bench to celebrate their time playing at CJHS and the outstanding season, and moving on to the next level of play in high school. That was the extent of 8th grade recognition day due to Covid restrictions. Good luck Lady Maroons. #Maroon Pride, #Maroon Strong
