Clinton Otter breaks YMCA 100-yard breaststroke record

CLINTON — On January 21, the Clinton Otters hosted the Danville Dolphins at the Clinton Community YMCA for a swim dual meet. The Otters have less than eight weeks left in their season that opened in October. Otters have been working hard to achieve each of their individual goals to earn qualifying times for a chance to compete in Districts and State Meet, helin March.
This season many Otters have already achieved personal best individual times in events, and some have already qualified for the upcoming District and State Meets.
One swimmer who came into the dual meet with his own goals ended his day with his name at the top of a very special list. Oliver Goar, son of Jake and Dana Goar, set the bar high for himself and broke the YMCA record in the 100-yard breaststroke for ages 13-14, with a finals time of 1:09.01.
Goar, who has been an Otter for about seven years, is “really coming into his own and exemplifying the character values that make up the Otters program,” coaches said.
Goar is coached by Ashton Beck and Tracy Karr. He also is a freshman on the Clinton High School swim team coached by Karr.
The Otters will travel next to Hannibal, Mo. to compete in the “Tom & Beck Invite.”
