CLINTON — The Clinton Community YMCA announced recently the hiring of Lesli “Sass” Spencer as the Sports Coordinator. Spencer has worked at the YMCA since 2017 with the Y-zone program, Camp Osage program and sports program.
Spencer has a long history of working with kids. She was a physical education teacher for 30 years and coached basketball for six years.
Last month Spencer was inducted into the Basketball Association Hall of Fame as a player. In 2022 she will be inducted into the Lincoln Community College Hall of Fame.
Spencer said her goals for the program were to keep as many kids as active as she could and to teach them the rules of the sports at an early age. The Y is currently in the outdoor soccer program with 140 kids participating. Volleyball starts in November and basketball in December.
Spencer also said she wants to start some adult sports programs in the near future.
