CLINTON — On Tuesday, the county board’s finance committee voted to recommend items that went to the full board on Thursday. Among those items were new labor contracts with county employees and a move to secure the county’s online data.
The committee discussed proposed changes in the county employees’ vacation policy. New provisions would set 20 annual vacation days for employees with 18-24 years of service. Employees with 25 or more years would receive 25 days of vacation. The old policy stopped at 20 days with 21 or more years of service.
Committee members also voted to recommend to the full county board approval of the new union contracts with corrections, dispatch and county patrol employees.
Concern about the safety of information stored on county building servers, the committee voted to recommend to the full board purchase of remote storage from EC/Viscon at a one-time cost of $20,551.
“This is to switch everything over to virtual servers,” said administrative assistant Dee Rentmeister.
County Clerk Dana Smith described the system as a type of cloud storage.
Shared, remote data storage employs more complex and additional layers of cyber security making outside data breaches more difficult.
Committee members tabled action on a cyber risk insurance policy pending further research.
Members also recommended the purchase of six new computers at a cost of $6,931.
The committee approved rate increases for the per diem paid to zoning board of appeals (ZBA) and regional planning commission (RPC) members. The rate for chairman will increase from $30 to $35; for members, the rate will increase from $20 to $25.
