Cross-country teams perform well in final home meet

CLINTON — The Clinton Maroons’ cross-country team held its final home meet of the season this past week with a special run.

These runs were held at the high school as were the original “Friday Night Spikes” runs held under the lights.  The course was modified a to improve on problems found during the first runs, and the flow went well.

This meet also was a “Run for the Cure,” with the teams (and many spectators) in pink shirts or other pink accessories.  The event was a quadrangular (four teams participating) with Cerro Gordo, St. Teresa, and Sullivan as the opposition for the Maroons.

The afternoon included two races, ladies first and then the gentlemen.

The ladies race was led by Lady Maroon Makayla Koeppel with Clinton taking five of the top 10 spots.  Koeppel ran with a best time of 21:11:76 minutes.  In scoring, Clinton took first with St. Teresa in second and Cerro Gordo and Sullivan tying for third place.

The second race (the guys) was led again by a Maroon, Ethan Black, who led wire to wire.  Black ran the 3-mile course in 16:29:14 minutes.  Even with just four runners in the top 10, the Maroons took the team win also with St. Teresa again in second place.

Cerro Gordo took third with Sullivan in fourth.
