CLINTON — On March 9, the DeWitt Clinton Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) honored the winners of the 2019 Good Citizen Award at a pizza lunch, held at the Vespasian Warner Public Library, in Clinton.

Each winner is a senior at her respective high school and was selected by faculty and class as the senior who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership, dependability, service and patriotism in their school, home and community.

Megan Schumacher, daughter of Jennifer and Eric Schumacher, was selected from Blue Ridge High School.  Megan is interested in pursuing a career in hospitality management, but is yet undetermined which college she will attend.

The winner from Heyworth High School was Erin Brown, daughter of Regina and Michael Brown.  Upon high school graduation, Erin will attend college and major in finance in order to become a Certified Financial Planner.

Olivia Bierbrodt was selected as the Good Citizen winner from Clinton High School.  Each winner received a certificate, pin, and recognition card.

Megan and Erin chose to enter the optional essay contest writing on the topic, “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.”  Megan’s essay was chosen as the first place winner, for which she received $100.   Her essay was forwarded to be judged at the district level.

Erin also entered an essay, which was chosen for second place and she received $25.
