Delmar James Sandage

CLINTON — Today, April 9, 2018, at 4:10 a.m. the family of Delmar James Sandage is certain that he heard, "Well done, good and faithful servant" from our precious Lord. Delmar passed peacefully at Warner Hospital & Health Services, in Clinton, surrounded by his wife and daughters, after a long courageous battle with cancer. 

Delmar will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of nearly 20 years, Amy; their daughters, Samantha Sandage of Springfield, IL, Sabreena (Dallas) Murphy of Macon,.and Emily Sandage of Clinton; his grandsons, Brexton and Brody; his parents, Jim and Dora Sandage of Decatur; his sisters, Rebecca (Jim) Wooters of Decatur , Cindy (Cary) Moore of Decatur, Susan (Todd) Farthing of Macon; his sister-in-law, Sherry (James) Sandage of West Frankfort, Ill.; in –laws, Linda (Robert) Cox of Clinton, and Jack (Carole) Leming of Decatur, as well as many more extended family members. Delmar was reunited in Heaven with his brother James Richard Sandage. 

Delmar, a 1980 graduate of Macon High School, Macon, was born on November 4, 1962, in Chicago, and at the age of 4 was adopted, along with his three sisters, by Jim and Dora. Delmar went on to have a 30-year career in banking and was most recently the Community Business Ambassador for Buena Vista National Bank in Decatur.  He loved his customers and his coworkers. He was a member and past President of Rotary #180, past president of DeWitt County Habitat for Humanity, Warrensburg Masonic Summit Lodge #431, and as a Decatur Chamber Ambassador was awarded The Delmar Sandage Chamber Ambassador Spirit Award. He also loved working with the Warrensburg Booster Club and being a Lead Op for Melrose Pyrotechnics shooting fireworks on the 4th of July. 

Delmar married Amy July 29, 1998 in Decatur, and their adventures took them all over Illinois. Having lived in Macon, Medora, Ill., Flora, Ill. and most recently Clinton, Delmar will be remembered by all for his smile, his hugs and kisses, his energy, his love for family and friends but most of all for his love of his Heavenly Father. 

The Sandage family would like to express our undying gratitude to the staff at Cancer Care Specialists of IL but especially to Dr. Ben Esparaz and nurses Kelly and Kim. We would also like to thank Safe Haven Hospice, nurse Kelly, and the staff at John Warner Hospital, nurse Denise and especially nurse Chrissy who helped us walk Delmar home to Jesus. 

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Delmar Sandage will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Amy Sandage C/O Education Fund of Emily Sandage 10 Holly Drive, Clinton, IL 61727.
