Det. Todd Ummel retiring from Clinton Police Dept.

CLINTON — Det. Todd Ummel, of the Clinton Police Department is preparing to retire after 32 years as a law enforcement officer.

Ummel began his career with the Clinton Police Department in 1989 and in his combined 32 years in the law enforcement profession, 22 with Clinton Police Department  1989-1999 and 2009-2021,  he has served in the roles of Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Handler, Field Training Officer, Task Force 6 Inspector, Juvenile Officer and Detective.

Ummel left the Department in 1999 to further his college education and pursue other professional opportunities, returning to law enforcement and the Clinton Police Department  in 2009.

“Todd is an officer who has excelled in every assignment he’s been given and has been a great mentor to the officers who have had the opportunity to work with him,” Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers said. “He is an impeccable detective with extraordinary communication skills and credited with bringing countless criminals to justice for every crime imaginable, and yet the most compassionate in his pursuit to the victims and suspects alike.”

Lowers said Ummel’s knowledge and 32 years of law enforcement experience, “will be greatly missed, however we wish him the very best in his much deserved retirement.”
