DeWitt County Museum joins Smithsonian Magazine ‘Museum Day’

CLINTON — The C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum, 219 E. Woodlawn, Clinton, Illinois, will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticketholders on Saturday, September 22, 2018 as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day, a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based museums.

Museum Day represents a nationwide commitment to access, equity and inclusion.  Over 250,000 people downloaded tickets for last year’s event, and Museum Day 2018 is expected to attract more museumgoers than ever before.

“We are delighted to be endorsed by Smithsonian and to take part in this event which will take place at museums large and small across the country.” stated Museum Director, Joey Woolridge.  “Participation in Museum Day certainly aligns with our mission statement to provide educational opportunities and to promote and preserve DeWitt County’s history. I welcome all to take advantage of this special opportunity.”

Situated on 10 acres, the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum includes the 150 year-old mansion that was once home to Clifton H. Moore, DeWitt County’s first resident attorney, land speculator, benevolent citizen, and associate of Abraham Lincoln; a 19th century carriage barn; the landmark replica covered bridge; telephone and farm museums; and special exhibits.

Museum Day tickets are available for download at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay.  Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two participating venues on September 22, 2018.  One ticket is permitted per email address.  A list of all participating museums can be found at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay/Search.
