CLINTON — On Thursday, November 11, the Clinton Junior High School (CJHS) Maroons took on Route 51 North rival, the Heyworth Hornets.
The 8th grade Maroons came out in the first quarter firing three point shots, and making them to take a 17-11 lead. The second quarter found the Hornets combating the Maroon long shots defensively, holding Clinton to 3 points on one three-pointer, while scoring 10 points of their own to take a 21-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The final two quarters were low scoring events that kept the teams jockeying back and forth for the lead. The hornets scored 6 points in each of the last two quarters while the Maroons scored 7 in the third to tie the game and 8 points in the fourth hard fought quarter to bring home a 2-point win.
Graves led the Maroons with 18 points, which included four three-pointers.
The day had been dreary, and the Maroons 7th graders seemed to be caught in the doldrums of the day. They scored in single digits in all four quarters, while the Hornets swarmed around them in double digits in three of the four quarters. The home team actually out scored the Hornets in the third quarter 7-4 but were outscored 42-14 in the other quarters for a 46-21 loss.
