CLINTON — The Clinton Junior High School (CJHS) Lady Maroons volleyball teams recently played their final home games facing the Meridian Lady Hawks and celebrated 8th grade recognition night.
The evening began with the 7th grade teams. The Lady Maroons had a tough time getting started in set one, but recovered somewhat to pull within six points before losing 25-19. The second set was more of a thriller as the home team stayed in the set until the the very end, but ultimately fell 25-23 for a 0-2 match loss.
During the break between matches, the graduating 8th grade Lady Maroons were recognized along with their parents. The 10 ladies moving (hopefully) to the high school volleyball ranks (in no particular order) were Meagan Stevens, Autumn Bartell, Alaina Soberalski, Jasmine Lambert, Jayden Thomas, Alayna Earl, Savanah Burton, Emmy Leach, Alexa Morris, and Candace Evans.
These ladies came to play and go out on a positive note. But, it proved to be a challenge against a well-trained Meridian team.
Nevertheless, the Lady Maroons stayed tough taking the first set 25-23. The second set was also close with the home team finally able to get some breathing room and open the scoring gap to win this round 25-21.
The ladies performed well in their final home match, winning 2-0.
