CLINTON — Eleanor June (Miller) Mears, 93, of Clinton, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on October 29, 2018, at Manor Court, Clinton.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Shannon Bohl officiating.  Burial will follow at Lisenby Cemetery, Lane, Ill.  Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Wesley Harrold education fund.

Eleanor was born September 13, 1925, in Clinton, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Torbert) Miller.  She married Chester Lee “Chet” Mears on May 7, 1949.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette (Larry) Winebrinner, Clinton; granddaughter, Hillari (Jeff) Harrold; great-grandchildren, Megan Wold and Wesley Harrold; great-great granddaughters: Sophia, Luci, and Zoey; sister, Donna Shuford, Texas. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son: Denver Mears, one grandson: Andrew Jason Winebrinner, sister: Margaret Pair, and brother: Glen Miller.

After receiving her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Illinois State University, she taught school for two years in Clinton and in Bloomington District #87. She retired after 37 years of teaching and then was supervisor for ISU student teachers for five years and substituted in the Clinton Schools. 

She was a member of the American Childhood Association, the NEA and Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary Sorority for Women Educators, and member of Homemakers Extension. She was a member of the Clinton Assembly of God, where she was involved with many teaching experiences and later was the church librarian. She loved going to Young at Heart and the Prime Timers.

Eleanor loved the Lord, her family, friends and teaching children. She will be missed by anyone that knew this wonderful lady.
