CLINTON — Clinton firefighters are busy during October, which is National Fire Prevention Month. And, the annual fire truck parade is scheduled for Wed., Oct. 11.
The parade will travel from McDonald's along Illini Dr. to W. Main Street concluding at Mr. Lincoln's Square.
“We have our crew going to all the schools,” said commissioner Dan Ballenger.
Each year during this time, local firefighters visit the elementary schools to conduct fire prevention education activities. During the night of the fire truck parade, the department also has its “smoke house” available as part of its education program.
Additional city council business from Monday
The council placed on file an amendment to the liquor code that would permit the local movie theater to sell alcohol. A vote on the change would come later.
Accounts and finances commissioner Tom Edmunds reported the city was about $1,600 under that same time last year for regular city sales tax revenue.
“On non-home-rule sales tax, we went into the hole,” Edmunds said. “But. I think part of that because in non-home-rule tax we now have to pay a fee to state government to collect money for us.”
The city approved $3,600 for wood chips for the parks department from J&L Morris and placed on file façade agreement with AMS, Inc. for $1,871 city portion and with Green Acres Real Estate for city portion $15,630.
