JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — George Church Thorp, 85, of Jacksonville, Ill., formerly of Clinton, passed away at 11:07 p.m. on May 3, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the United Methodist Church, Clinton, with the Rev. Randy Myers officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors.  Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

George was born on September 15, 1932, in Clinton, the son of Howard and Edna (Church) Thorp.  He married Shirley A. Daniels on April 6, 1957, in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Thorp, Jacksonville; children, George Mark (Jill) Thorp, St. Louis, Mo.; Richard Eric (Andrea M.) Thorp, Boerne, Texas; Brian Edward Thorp, Snoqualmie, Wash.; Janice Elaine Thorp, Jacksonville; four grandchildren, George Jonathon E. (Kristina) Thorp, Lake St. Louis, Mo.; Kristina (Anthony) Thorp-White, Florissant, Mo.; Richard Christopher (Meagan) Thorp, Humble, Texas; Stephanie Danielle (Kevin) Thorp-Koether, Boerne, Texas; five great-grandchildren, George Jacob G. Thorp; Grace L. Thorp; Hannah White; Richard Jackson Thorp, and Parker Rae Thorp.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Thorp.

George was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, 1951-1955.  He was a Boy Scout leader and master.  George retired from Lundia Meyer, Jacksonville Ill.  He was a long-time benefactor of Culver Academies, Culver, Ind.  George traveled as far east as Saudi Arabia and as far west as Hong Kong.
