Gov. Rauner speaks during annual Republican Lincoln Day Dinner

Posted

CLINTON — The DeWitt County Republican Central Committee held its annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Tuesday, March 21 at the Clinton Country Club.  Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner was the keynote speaker this year to the sold out event.  Governor Rauner spent time talking with all of the attendees individually before addressing the crowd as a whole.

The Governor covered a wide range of issues affecting Illinois, from property tax reform, workers comp reform and modernization of state government.  He spoke at length about the many departments that are still operating processes by hand and using software from nearly 40 years ago.  According to the Governor, these are areas that need to modernize to improve efficiency, cut cost and provide a better service to the taxpayers of Illinois.

DeWitt County Chairman Dustin Peterson said he was “extremely pleased” with the event as a whole, from the strong support for the Governor and for making this one of their most successful Lincoln Day dinners to date.

“I can’t thank Governor Rauner enough for being our keynote speaker this year, its quite refreshing to have a Governor that understands there is a lot more to this great state than Cook County,” said Peterson.  “I think everyone can agree with Governor Rauner’s message that we need real reform in Illinois to make us more competitive in creating more jobs; we need more taxpayers, not more taxes and that can only be achieved with more jobs.”
