CLINTON — Harrell Walter Ellis, 84, of Clinton formerly of Decatur died on Saturday, August 7, 2021, in OSF St. Francis Hospital Peoria.
A celebration of life service for Harrell will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021, from 2-5 p.m. at his residence in Clinton. Memorials in his honor may be made to The American Cancer Society or to the Lane Christian Church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is assisting with the arrangements.
Harrell was born in Decatur on May 5, 1937, son of John Everett and Helen Ellis. He attended Decatur Public Schools. Harrell worked for the Decatur Township Cemeteries and was Sexton of Greenwood Cemetery. Harrell enjoyed puzzles, puzzle books, woodworking and was a winter Texan. He collected coins, lighters and knives and clocks. He married Shirley Benefiel, of Clinton, on December 30, 1994.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley Ellis, of Clinton, step-children, Carol (Scott) Wilke, of Villa Ridge, Mo., Stephanie (Roben) Huffman, of Clinton, Stan (Jody) Covey,of Clinton, Scott Covey of Phoenix, Ariz., Shannon (Tara) Covey, of Bloomington,, several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lysle, sister, Jean and step-daughter, Sonya Larkin.
