WAYNESVILLE — James L. Valentine, 82, of Waynesville, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on September 11, 2017, at his daughter’s residence, Bloomington.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017, at Waynesville Christian Church, Waynesville, with David Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville, with military honors. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

James was born on December 11, 1934, in Waynesville, the son of Thad and Mildred (Ellington) Valentine. He married Linda K. Purlee March 10, 1962, in Waynesville. She passed away on November 13, 1987.
Survivors include his children, Connie (Michael) Underwood, Bloomington; Clint (Teresa) Valentine, McLean; Michael Valentine, Waynesville; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vicki Furman.
James was an U.S. Army veteran, serving from May, 1957 until May, 1959. He retired from Wallace Press, Inc. after 35 years of service. He was a coin collector. He enjoyed motorcycle races, traveling and bow hunting. He was an animal lover.
