CLINTON — James O. Peterson, 93, of Clinton, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on October 18, 2018, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 22, at the First Christian Church, Clinton, with Bob Phillips and Greg Taylor officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Texas Township Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the church. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Little Galilee Christian Assembly.
James was born on December 11, 1924, in Nason, Ill., the son of Guy and Mary (Baker) Peterson. He married Marjorie Belle Gilbert on February 15, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, Ill. She passed away on May 23, 2015.
Survivors include his children, Dr. Lana (John) Bourn, Woodson, Ill.; James Alan (Lila) Peterson, DeWitt, Ill.; Kevin (Sherry) Peterson, Little Galilee Christian Assembly, Clinton; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and siblings, Margie Beckham, Decatur, Ill.; Imogene Lance, Oreana, Ill., Tom (Nancy) Peterson, Salem, Ill.
James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marlin Dean “Red” Peterson and Bob Peterson.
James was a U.S. Army sergeant, stationed in Germany. He retired from Revere Copper and Brass after 30 years. James was the owner of Peterson Radio & TV, in Clinton. After retirement, he and his wife volunteered for Mobile Missionary Assistance Program for 25 years, working on construction projects all over the United States. He volunteered for over 30 at Little Galilee mowing and painting. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
