CLINTON — Joan “Joey” Short, 83, of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday night, February 5, 2019, at 7:50 p.m. at Warner Hospital & Health Services, in Clinton.
She was born on February 15, 1935, in Clinton, the daughter of Estle “Tubby” and Isabelle Reid Lowe. She married Robert Short on November 29, 1956, in Clinton. He preceded her in death in 2009.
Joey was a longtime nurse, working at Dr. John Warner Hospital, in Clinton, for 35 years until her retirement. She also worked in other areas of medicine, including home health care. She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed cheering on her beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
She is survived by three sons, Michael lee Short of Clinton; Steven T. (Linda) Short, of Clinton; and Phillip L. Short, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Jim (Ashley) Blue of Birmingham, Ala.; Adam (Heather) Blue, of Bloomington; Justin (Tracie) Blue, of Champaign; Andrea (Cody) Shepard, of Maroa; and Trevor Blue, of Clinton; four great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Doris Dash.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Honoring Joey’s wishes, cremation services will be provided by Moran and Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2801 North Monroe Street, Decatur, IL.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, of Clinton. Burial of Joey’s ashes will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Clinton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the DeWitt County animal shelter, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the American Cancer Society.
