CLINTON — After 46 years, John Heap is retiring from Gibson Ace Hardware, Clinton.
John Heap married Candi Gibson in 1970, and after graduating with an agriculture engineering degree from the University of Illinois, they returned to Clinton, and John started at Ace.
Over the years, John has served on the Ace Triad board and the Midwest Hardware Association, where he also was president in 1996. He also served the community as a member of the Clinton Fire Department, Elks Lodge, Rotary Club, Clinton Country Club, First Christian Church, Clinton Chamber of Commerce and as a city commissioner.
John said he enjoyed his many years working at Ace, and he thanked their many loyal customers and hard-working employees.
John’s family and Ace Hardware employees attended a retirement dinner at Alexander’s Steakhouse this past weekend. John and Candi also said they were excited their son-in-law Brad Barton has returned to manage the store as a third-generation Ace Hardware store.
