CHEBURNE, Texas — John Robert Gettel, 64, passed away on March 19, 2017 at Texas Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas.
John is survived by his wife, Cynthia Gettel, his step-children, Erin Wolf and Joey Brown, one sister, Mary Jane (Dearl) Thomas, Clinton; three brothers, Howard (Cindy) Gettel, Kansas City, Mo.; George (Donna) Gettel, Tulsa, Okla.; and Jim (Kim) Gettel, Clinton; and one sister-in-law, Pam Daub, Morton, Ill., as well as three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren Gettel and Irene Gettel, and one brother, Harold Daub.
John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1976. He was a war veteran who served as a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam.
John had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed time with family and friends. The best memories are of the delicious food he loved to cook for everyone.
Our world will be a little emptier without him. Semper Fi!
