CLINTON — Joseph E. Nixon, 87, of Clinton, passed away on December 22, 2019. At the request of the deceased, a private graveside service was held on December 27, 2019, at Mausoleum Park Cemetery in Clinton.
Joe was born on August 24, 1932, in rural Weldon, to William McKinley and Alma Lafferty Nixon. On April 6, 1952, he married Martha M. Lampe at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Surviving immediate family include his wife Martha and their six children Cynthia D. (Clyde) Goin Decatur; Steven L. (Susan) Nixon Dayton, Ohio; Phillip R. (Cathy) Nixon Mundelein, Ill.; Don M. (Carrie) Nixon Clinton; Bruce E. (Lori) Nixon Woodbury, Minn.; and Kyle B. Nixon Clinton.
Also surviving are eight granddaughters, five grandsons, three great- grandsons, two great -granddaughters, one step- grandson, one great- step- grandson, and one great- step- granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers J. Sheldon, W. David, and Teddy E.; sisters Helen M. Baker and Virginia E. Ryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clinton United Methodist Church mission committee.
