CLINTON — For the second year in a row, Crang-Bennett American Legion Post #103, here in Clinton, hosted the “2.2 mile Run/Walk With a VET” to bring awareness to the public about the 22 veterans a day who commit suicide.
The event this year far eclipsed the 2017 participation. The initial run/walk in 2017 attracted attracted 33 walkers. This year, 88 participants enjoyed a trip around Clinton. The 2018 run/walk was held on July 4 and started the Fourth of July celebration activities on Mr. Lincoln Square.
The event also had both runners and walkers involved, and the weather was other than pleasant as the rains came down at the start of the event and continued off and on for a short time, then the weather turned hot and humid.
However, all 88 participants completed the course and reported they had a great time along the way.
The Legion also had the Mobile Vet Center in attendance for any veterans who wished to learn about veteran’s benefits, health care, etc. They plan for the event to grow in the future. Part of the race fee goes to support the veterans programs.
