CLINTON — Kathy Haurberg, formerly of Walnut, Ill., passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017, at her home in Clinton, at the age of 70.
Kathy was born on October 7, 1947 in Hornell, N.Y., daughter of the late Rodney E. Penny and Marion Dickinson Penny Anderson. She graduated from Babylon High School and went on to college at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, where she met her husband, Brooke Haurberg. They were married 45 years, until Brooke’s passing in 2013.
Kathy taught in the Walnut and Bureau Valley schools for over 25 years, retiring in 2004. She has remained in contact with scores of former students, as well as fellow colleagues, who loved her dearly.
Besides her parents and husband, Brooke, Kathy was predeceased by her brother, David Penny.
She is survived by her daughter, Tara Cook (Dave) and son, Clay (Megan); grandchildren Tayler, Shae, DJ, Lydia, Austin, and Abby, and a sister, Susan Penny.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 7 from 4-8 at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, Ill. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 8, at the funeral home, followed by burial at the Walnut Cemetery.
