Lady Maroons 7-1 over Lady Broncos in Regional

Marc Rogers / Journal CHS Catcher Heidi Humble (#27) hangs on to the ball as the Lady Bronco is called out on strikes.

CLINTON — The Lady Maroons entered the Illinois High School Association’s Regional playoffs with a home game against the Cerro Gordo/Bement Lady Broncos.

The Lady Maroons have had some struggles this season but began winning some games, while keeping others close.

This was a good match-up.  The Lady Maroons scored first in the first inning on a triple by Heidi Humble (#27).  Then, in the second the home team got a single and then another triple, this one by Mea Kivlehan (#7) to plate another score.

The opposition then scored one run in the third to cut the lead in half.  The Lady Broncos were then shut down by the Lady Maroons pitching and fielding.  The Lady Maroons added two more runs in the 4th on 2 singles and 2 doubles, two runs in the fifth on a double and 2 singles, and concluded their rally with a single run in the sixth inning on a walk and a double.
