CLINTON — On Thursday, March 25, the Sullivan Lady Redskins invaded the confines of Vance Gymnasium to attempt a rout of the hometown Lady Maroons. 

There would be three battles at hand, freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity.  The first set of the freshman match was a closely-fought battle, with the opposition winning by two points, 25-23. 

The second set was, however, all Clinton as the Lady Maroons won 22-11 in a time-constrained game.  So, the match ended with a 1-1 tie.

The junior varsities then took the court to do battle.  This match seemed to be in hand as the Lady Maroons went on a 12-point run early and seemed to have the set under control. 

But, the Lady Redskins rallied with a 10-point run to close the scoring gap.  The home team regained control, however, and won the first set 25-23. 

The second set was more aggressively fought with neither team gaining a large advantage until the Lady Maroons broke through from a 20-20 tie to score the last 5 points for the 25-20 win.  Thus, the JV Lady Maroons took the match 2 sets to none for the Lady Redskins.

The varsity match was the last on the agenda and proved to be the most thrilling as neither team could outdistance the other, and most of the sets were point by point.  The first set was very tight, almost exchanging point for point. 

Then, at 15 points and 19 points, the Lady Maroons gained a few points and were able to hold off a Sullivan rally to take the first set 25-22.  In the second set, the battle began again in a point for point duel until at 24 for the Lady Maroons, the Lady Redskins put on their full attack mode, scoring 4 straight points to win 26-24.  Match tied. 

Teams headed into the third set tie breaker, again to 25 points.  This set was a little more wide open; the turnovers were not as quick as point for point.  This set was still close, but the Lady Maroons finished off the Lady Redskins with another 25-22 score to take the match 2-1 in sets.
