CLINTON — Early last week, the hometown Maroons faced rival Argenta-Oreana (A/O).  The A/O Bombers hoped to take a couple of wins from the Maroons who are having a tough season.

The junior varsities started the evening’s events with a surprise for the opposition.  The Maroons opened the game with a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Both teams then played strong defense in the second quarter without much scoring much.

The second half began with the Maroons JV up 27-9, when the home team exploded offensively scoring 23 points, while defensively holding the Bombers to zero points.  The final quarter was close, but the opponents were already beaten.

The final score was 56-18 in favor of the Maroons.  Garrett Wayne led the JV with 11 points and the team scored two 3-point shots (Skyler Williamson-1, Max Johnson-1)

With the JV win, the varsity had something to boost their morale for their battle.  The first quarter was not great as the teams only had a 6 point split at the end of the period.

The Maroons then began their run in the second quarter to take a 35-21 lead by the half.

Coming out from halftime, the Maroons dropped the hammer on the Bombers with a 23-9 scoring run.  Neither team scored well in the final stanza of the game, but the Maroons didn’t really need to since they were in command most of the way.

The final score showed the Maroons on top 63-37.

Cal Case (16 points) and Ben Nelson (12 points) were the scoring leaders for the Maroons, who also collectively scored four 3-point shots (Zeke Hickman-2, Cal Case-1, Ben Nelson-1).
