CLINTON — On the first day of spring, the Lady Maroons hosted the Olympia Lady Spartans in a slug fest. And, the weather was just as rough, starting in the mid- to upper 60s and ending in the lower 50s.
The varsity game began with Olympia taking a 4-1 lead in the first inning and continuing to a 10-4 lead in the second.
Then, things began to happen for the home team Lady Maroons. During the third inning the Lady Spartans added another run, but Clinton exploded. The home team added 7 runs of their own, including a grand slam home run by Rodj Dupont-Barlow followed by a single run homer by sister Ryty Dupont- Barlow.
This brought the score to 13-11 in favor of the opposition. From there, the teams traded runs until the end of the 7th inning when somehow the game was tied. The Lady Maroons had broken through.
The end was not yet in sight as the teams fought another inning for a decision, and in the end Olympia came out on top 19-15.
Unfortunately, the junior varity also lost 15-0 in a sadly one-sided game.
The varsity is now 1-1 on the season and the JV team is 0-2.
