CLINTON — Last week before the great flood, the Lady Maroons were able to play on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 25 and 26.
The first game was against a struggling St. Teresa Bulldog team from Decatur. It took a bit for the teams to warm up, but warm up Clinton did.
The feast or famine game (feast for the Lady Maroons, famine for the Lady Bulldogs) began to roll in the third inning when Clinton scored 2 runs. Then, the on fire Lady Maroons added five more runs in the fifth inning and 2 more in the 6th to round out the scoring. Clinton took the afternoon game 9-0.
The Dupont-Barlow sisters, Rodjahnae and Ryty, led the Maroons with four quality-at-bats (QABs) each with Tori Wilson close behind with three. Olivia Sanders held down the pitchers mound for all 7 innings, throwing 19 first-pitch-strikes and striking out 11 batters (her opponent struck out only 2 batters).
Next up for the Lady Maroons were the Argenta-Oreana Lady Bombers. This game promised to be a slugfest early as both teams led off with two runs in the first inning.
Then, in the second inning the lady Bombers seemed to go to sleep for the rest of the game while the home town Lady Maroons picked up where they left off the day before. The Lady Maroons got the merry-go-round effect going in the second inning for six unanswered runs.
After adding another run in the fourth inning, the Lady Maroons ended the game with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a ten-run rule win, 12-2. Mackenzie Armstrong pitched this outing for the Lady Maroons.
Tori Wilson led the Lady Maroons offense with 3 QABs on 2 hits, 1 walk and 3 runs-batted-in (RBIs). Aspyn Taylor followed with 3 QABs and 3 RBIs.
