Lady Maroons: Regular season loss to post-season win

Posted

CLINTON — After a very tough end to the regular season, the Lady Maroons softball team has extended its season.

In a late season misfire with the Meridian Lady Hawks, the Lady Maroons scored in the first inning in a back and forth game that was tied at 3 in the fourth.  Then Meridian scored one run in the fifth and 6 in the sixth followed by an extra 2 runs for good measure in the seventh serving up a 12-3 loss for the Lady Maroons.

Then, in their final regular season game, the Lady Maroons traveled to Normal to face the Normal U-High Lady Pioneers.

The opposition drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning with one run.  The Lady Maroons tied the game in the top of the second with a run of their own and the game became a pitchers duel until the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Pioneers pushed across another run and then held the Lady Maroons scoreless in the seventh.  This was a tough one run loss (1-2) for the final regular season game of the Lady Maroons.  The Lady Maroons had an 8-17 regular season record.

After an up and down season, the Lady Maroons entered the post season at home against the Springfield Lanphier Lady Lions.

The home team had a wide open attitude in this game, swinging and bunting at the right times and stealing bases whenever possible.  This created a run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Lady Maroons a lead that they would later capitalize on.

And that they did, batting twice around through the lineup twice in the second inning and scoring 14 runs.

A feeble rally was mounted by the opposition, scoring only one run.  The home team then added 3 runs in the bottom of the third to take the 15 run rule win 17-1.

For their next game the Lady Maroons travel to Rochester to play another regional battle against the Lady Rockets.
