CLINTON — On Wednesday, April 19, The Lady Maroon softball teams (varsity/junior varsity) hosted the Lady Rams of Shelbyville.
The afternoon began with the varsity up first, and it became apparent that a pitchers’ duel was in progress. The game was scoreless for five innings with nothing but pitching and good defense.
The sixth inning started off with the Lady Rams scoring twice. The Lady Maroons answered with a run of their own before exiting the inning. in the seventh, the Lady Rams added an insurance run, but it was not needed as the Lady Maroons could not move any more runs across the plate. That left the Lady Rams with the 3-1 win.
In the second game (junior varsity/JV), Shelbyville again took the lead, tis time in the first inning with two runs.
Again the Lady Maroons answered with 1 run of their own. Nothing happened over the next two innings of the time constrained game. The fifth and final inning saw the Shelbyville team again add an insurance run, but the Lady Maroons JV team was not done. In the bottom half of the fifth the Lady Maroons rallied for 5 runs to take the lead and a 6-3 win.
