CLINTON — On Friday, March 23, the Lady Maroons headed south to play the ever-tough Maroa-Forsyth Lady Trojans.  This outing was also tough because the Lady Maroons lost a fellow classmate, Spencer Toohill, in an auto accident the previous day.

This would be only the second outing of the season for the Ladies due to the inclement spring weather.

To start the afternoon, the Lady Trojans presented the Lady Maroons with bottled water tied with red and white bows.  Then, just prior to the first pitch there was an announcement requesting a moment of silence in honor of Spencer.  The Lady Trojans then entered the field with red helium balloons, keeping one for themselves and giving one to each Lady Maroon as they all surrounded the pitchers circle.  At the end of the silence all of the balloons were released.

The games began with the varsity teams facing off first.  The Lady Trojans drew first blood score a run in the first inning.  In the third inning 2 more runs appeared on the Lady Trojan scoreboard block with another to follow in the fourth inning.

Then, life came into the Lady Maroon camp as Mackenzie Armstrong hit a solid single and was able to advance by the next three hitters to score a run for the Lady Maroons.  The Lady Trojans answered with 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning and added 4 more runs in the sixth to take the win 10-1 over the Lady Maroons.

For the Lady Maroons, Armstrong led the offense going 2-3, with two singles (the only hits for the team) and a walk.  The Ladies also committed 4 errors.  The team is now 0-2 on the season.

In the nightcap, the junior varsity teams stepped into a slugfest.  Clinton started with a single run in the first inning.  The flood gates then opened in the second inning with the Lady Maroons posting 5 added runs, while the Lady Trojans came in with 2 runs.

Each team added 3 runs to their respective tallies in the third inning when the Lady Maroon wheels began to wobble.  The Lady Maroons went dormant in the forth inning and the Lady Trojans capitalized with 8 runs added to their score to give them a 3 run lead.

In the final inning, the Lady Maroons managed only 2 runs in a valiant effort, coming up two runs short of a tie and losing 13-11.

Everyone for the Lady Maroons got into the act with Ellie Maier and Zoie Polen leading the way with 2-4 hitting and each scoring 3 runs.  One of Zoie’s hits was a triple driving in 2 runs.
