CLINTON — After taking second place in their “Turkey Tussle,” the Lady Maroons took a short road trip to LeRoy for a game with the Lady Panthers, winning 43-38 and giving the team a 4-1 record on the season.
They then came home to face the Tolono Unity Lady Rockets. The lead-in junior varsity game saw the Lady Maroons take and hold a slight lead in the first half, ending up by five at 19-14. In the second half the Lady Maroons poured on the offense and defense, holding the Lady Panthers to 4 points in the third quarter while scoring 14 points of their own. This was the deciding factor in the game as both teams scored 10 points each in the final quarter of play. The junior varsity took a 43-28 win.
The varsity game was a bit of a different go. The Lady Maroons held a slim one-point lead through the first half, not being able to jell on either offense or defense enough to make the breakaway drive.
Then in the third quarter, the Lady Panthers dug in their claws and scrapped to a 5-point lead that they would not relinquish. The Lady Maroons made a valiant run in the last minute falling short at the buzzer by one point with a 33-32 loss.
On the good side of the tape, the Lady Maroons are now 4-2 on the season and in the game saw point production from nine different players and the ability to make a strong push late in the game.
