CLINTON — The Lady Maroons have been gearing up for the upcoming state meets. They have competed in several large meets, one in Shelbyville, where they took second as a team out of 19 teams, and another at Tolono Unity, where they placed 6th as a team out of 21 competing teams.
Following those two finishes, the Lady Maroons took second place as team at the Shelbyville Invitational and then took the championship at the 2018 Rochester Rocket Invitational (beating the closest competitor by 13 points). Then, the team was home for its Annual Clinton Carnival Meet where they took second place on Senior Night, followed by a meet at Monticello where the Lady maroons placed third over all out of 20 teams.
It all begins again with the Lady Maroons entering the “Championship Rounds” beginning with the CIC Championship. This is a huge start to the run for the state finals.
Last year, the Clinton Lady Maroons won the conference championship for the first time, and this year’s goal was to repeat that accomplishment. But they did just that, winning the 2018 Conference Championship.
The Maroons team scored 192 points with second place garnered by St. Teresa with 157 points. The ladies have all surpassed previous personal bests all season long with many school records being broken or closely challenged; some had been standing for years.
