GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Larry Elwin Miller Sr., 76 of Green Cove Springs, Fla. went to be with our Lord April 18, 2017, at 6:40 a.m.  He was a resident in Cross Care Center on Blanding Blvd in Jacksonville, Fla. for almost two years.  Vista Hospice cared for him there from April 2 to his death on April 18

Larry was born on May 6, 1940, in Clinton, Ill., to the late Percy Elwin Miller Jr. and Mary Pauline (Moore) Miller.  He lived in Illinois until the family moved to Florida in 1955, where he attended Titusville High School.  In 1956 Larry married his high school sweetheart Judy Delores Davis; a marriage of 16 years and resulting in five children; Wendy Lee Miller, Penny Joann Crawford (Red), Larry E. Miller I I (Sandy) and twin daughters Linda Louise Richie (Jon) and Brenda Sue Miller.

Later in 1976, Larry married Evelyn Franklin.  They had a son Preston E. K. Miller; still later an adopted daughter Victoria Nicole "Nikki" Miller.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two nephews; Matthew Scott Davis and Lester Elwin Ames and a granddaughter Valerie Celine Miller.

Surviving is his sister Betty Ames (Bill) of Godfrey, Ill., his children, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a dear uncle Don Miller, a special aunt Beverly Moore, and  many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special companion, Charlene.

He started his adult married life as a laborer at Cape Canaveral, creating launch pads.  Later, a short time was spent in Orlando working for "Porter Paints."  Another move was to Cocoa Beach to work for the city as a registered land surveyor.  Over the years he educated himself in drafting and engineering and created his own business.  At one point in time he and his family moved to Cottage Hill, Ill. and worked as a surveyor for Shaffer, Morgan and Swab out of Alton, Ill. and was also a volunteer policeman in Cottage Hills at that time.  Later he spent some time in Clinton, Ill. as police officer as well.  As years moved on Larry found himself Clay County Commissioner and even ran for mayor of Green Cove Springs, Fla.  Heart problems and other ailments led him to retire and become a real estate agent and broker.

Someone said, "Larry was a self taught , self made man".  In spite of ups and downs in his life, Larry was well loved by many and will be sorely missed by all!
