CLINTON — LaVonna Jean “Bonnie” Alexander, 94, of Clinton, formerly of Maroa, passed away at 8:24 a.m. on April 1, 2017, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Pastor Nathan Shaulis officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Ill. Visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Awana at the Harvest Community Church, Maroa.
Bonnie was born on March 14, 1923, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Edson and Emma Jean (Orlopp) Smith. She married Herbert J. Alexander, the love of her life, on May 10, 1942, in Bloomington, Ill. He passed away on March 8, 2000.
Survivors include her children, Patricia (David) Bartlett, Wallisville, Texas, Marilyn (Phillip) Beck, Maroa, Rosemary (Terry) Barthelemy, Salina, Kan., Gary Scott (Debbie) Alexander, Decatur, Ill., Laura (Vince) Wright, Pensacola, Fla., David (Debra) Alexander, Maroa; brother, Ken (Marilyn) Smith, Anaheim, Calif. and daughter-in-law: Carlone Alexander, Clinton; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Dale, sixbrothers and one sister
Bonnie was a member of the Harvest Community Church, Maroa, the American Legion Auxiliary, Caterpillar Retirees Club and the Red Hat Society. She loved hummingbirds and butterflies.
She was a child evangelism teacher in Decatur, Forsyth,and Maroa for 21 years and taught Sunday school at the Harvest Community Church of Maroa, (Formerly known as the Maroa Bible Church) for many years.
